In recent years there has been an increased focus on breastfeeding difficulties related to tongue-ties that may cause unintended early breastfeeding cessation. Due to a tongue-tie, a baby may have physio-motoric features that makes it challenging to obtain a good latch and create the vacuum needed to suck.
Physio-motoric features may also be the true cause of a breastfeeding challenge and can sometimes mimic a tongue-tie. Standard practice in breastfeeding counseling does not always meet the needs of these dyads.
In this course we will learn how to use diagnostic tools for evaluating tongue-ties as well as differentiate between symptoms and causes. We will also look at best ways of supporting breastfeeding and/or mothers milk nutrition for these babies.
