The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Erasmus MC is honored to host this multidisciplinary conference, where international researchers and clinical care providers will present and discuss the latest advances and evidence in periconception (including both preconception and early pregnancy) health and care.

Health and illness, processes that unfold across the life course, are shaped during the periconception window under the influence of time-specific circumstances.   Consequently, this window also offers unique opportunities to influence these dynamic trajectories of health and illness across the lifespan from the earliest moments onwards.

This perspective gives rise to a novel field of medicine: Early Life Course Medicine. This conference aims to expand the boundaries of medicine by sharing original insights into the diagnosis, treatment, and organization of care in the early life course. It will cover both theoretical foundations and practical interventions in the periconception period, as well as the latest approaches to deliver multidisciplinary, network-based care in collaboration with local social care partners. Through this approach, Early Life Course Medicine seeks to both increase resilience and prevent illness from its earliest stages as well as to promote equitable care supporting a healthy life course that benefits individuals, populations, and future generations.

Programma

The program includes innovative topics that are relevant for science, clinical practice and policy-making, such as:

Preconception care for life course health

• Public health importance of periconceptional care
• Governmental and professional responsibilities in implementing periconceptional care

Development of innovative diagnostics and interventions

• Preconception and interpregnancy care and implementation strategies (including finance)
• Lifestyle interventions in the preconception period
• AI imaging and early embryonic and placental health

Multidisciplinary preconception care in clinical practice

• Preconception care in severe maternal disease
• Preconception care in mental illness
• Do’s and don’ts in multidisciplinary collaboration
• Creating multidisciplinary care-networks for preconception care
